Project Oven
The issue. Pilmico wanted control of Shakey’s. The domestic business and the overseas ambition were being discussed as one asset. They are not. A realistic price has to know which one is earning and which one is still a slide.
The questions.
How big is the quick-service pizza market, and how much of it does this brand already hold?
Where does future growth come from, and how much of it is category growth rather than share gain?
Who are the competitors, and how are they positioned against the brand?
How intense is the fight for the same customer, the same site, and the same price point?
What is the international expansion actually worth, once the lack of development is priced in?
The outcome. The diligence covered the macro, the industry, the competitive set, the brand, the channels, and the risks that sit on the category and on the company. Domestic and international growth were analyzed as separate options. Pilmico could then set a valuation that balanced a healthy home business against an international business that had not yet been built.
Project K2
The issue. Kopi Kenangan, the Indonesian coffee chain, wanted a market-entry assessment for the Philippines. Home-market density is not a Philippine plan. The market, the incumbents, and the legal form of entry had to be read together.
The questions.
How big is the Philippine coffee market, and how much of the growth is still available to a new chain?
Who are the major players, and how are they positioned on price, site, and occasion?
How should Kopi Kenangan enter, and what are the real alternatives?
What do the commercial, legal, and tax consequences do to each choice?
The outcome. Market potential and the competitive set were profiled first, so the entry was not designed in a vacuum. The choices were then set side by side: licensing, franchising, a joint venture, and company-owned stores. Each path was judged on what it costs, what it controls, and what it leaves exposed. The client left with an entry assessment, not a default to the model that worked in Indonesia.
